THE PRISONS OMBUDSMAN OPENED INVESTIGATIONS INTO 334 DEATHS IN 2018-19, 96 PERCENT OF WHICH WERE OF PEOPLE IN PRISON.

THE RATE FOR PRISONERS IS ABOUT 83 PER 100,000 AND AMONG THE GENERAL POPULATION IT IS ABOUT 14 PER 100,000.
